Send that email account a test message. This will correct the issue by creating all of your necessary folders.

Why am I getting an 'Invalid Login' error when logging into the web-based email interface?
Ensure that your UserID and password are correct. Your UserID for email is your complete email address. Example:

admin@daisysflowershop.com

* Remember to replace 'daisysflowershop.com' with the name of your domain.

If you are still unable to log on then use your Default Admin Account. When you have logged on, then reset the password for that particular user. Check to make sure that you enabled 'allowed web access'. If you do not remember the admin password, then send us an email at support@enterhost.com.

I am having a problem with the CFFORM tag?
ColdFusion MX requires the /CFIDE/scripts directory contents to be copied into your /web directory. If you are running a local copy of ColdFusion MX server, you will be able to upload this folder. If you do not have a local copy, then contact support@enterhost.com and request our Support Team to copy this folder into your directory for you.

What mail server should I specify when using CFMail?
You should use the mail server for your domain.

ex. mail.daisysflowershop.com

cfmail, smtp, mail server

I can receive my mail but why am I unable to send mail?
First, ensure that you have enabled Outgoing Mail Server Authenication in your email client. If you are unsure about the proper steps to configure your email client, we have a number of demos you can view at the following URL:

http://www.enterhost.com/supportcenter/demos/default.cfm

If you have already enabled Outgoing Mail Server Authenication in your email client then you will need to change the Outgoing SMTP Server on your mail client to that of your ISP. Please contact your ISP if you do not know their SMTP Server.

How do I manage email accounts?
You can manage your email accounts using the web-based email interface. You can access this at http://mail.daisysflowershop.com* or check your Account Setup information for the temporary email URL.

* Remember to replace 'daisysflowershop.com' with the name of your domain.

Your UserID for email is your complete email address. Example:

admin@daisysflowershop.com

You automatically receive one POP3/IMAP mailbox with administrative permissions; it is referred to as the default admin account. The password is CASE SENSITIVE.

How can I setup a catch-all alias where I can receive all email @mydomain.com?

A catch-all alias will ensure that all email sent to your domain will be received, even if the email is sent to a non-existent user.

Create an alias called 'nobody' and direct it to your default admin account or any other valid email account.

How can I forward my email to another email account?

I noticed a user id of 'root' and an alias of 'postmaster' setup by default in my webmail. Why?
Each domain account setup in our mail servers must have a user ID of root and an alias of postmaster in order to comply with the SMTP RFCs. These allow messages to be sent to the server by other hosts, and also allow certain system messages (such as error messages) to be automatically generated.

Do you offer secure SMTP services?
No, our email services do not include secure SMTP.

What is your policy regarding bulk mail or mailing lists?

We do not allow mailing list services on our network. Even though your intentions are to be very responsible with your list, our experience in the past has led us to enforce this policy. With the creation of a number of organizations dedicated to reducing 'spam' it has made it difficult for us to offer this service because of the risk we would assume in the event it was not used appropriately. Thank you for your understanding.

What is the Enterhost Spam Control Policy?
Enterhost Block List Policy
Enterhost, in response to the increasing amount of incoming spam to our network, has provisioned additional resources to reduce the amount of spam our clients receive. This new policy is designed to alleviate the ever-growing issue of incoming abusive spam attacks on our mail infrastructure.

If someone sends an e-mail message and the sender's IP address or SMTP (mail) server is on one of these lists, then the incoming e-mail is blocked. This tool may result in the inadvertent blocking of some e-mail that is not traditional spam.
The lists which are currently in use are:

1. MAPS Realtime Blackhole List (http://mail-abuse.org/rbl)
2. MAPS Relay Spam Stopper (http://mail-abuse.org/rss)
3. MAPS Dialup User List (http://mail-abuse.org/dul)
4. MAPS Open Proxy Stopper List (http://mail-abuse.org/ops)
5. Spamhaus Block List (http://www.spamhaus.org/sbl)
6. Spamhaus Exploits Block List (http://www.spamhaus.org/xbl)

These six lists, coupled with an internal block list, will filter all inbound SMTP (e-mail) traffic. If an incoming e-mail is denied, a system message is sent back to the sender.

Enterhost subscribes to these lists to help us control the amount of spam entering our network. This is a decision which is made here at Enterhost; the list owners do not make this decision. The list does not block email all they do is tell us which IP addresses are suspect in their mailing practices. Enterhost has the ability to make the final determination, as well as technical ability, to choose whether or not to accept e-mail from any Internet entity, including those listed in the MAPS or Spamhaus Lists.

Enterhost uses the information in these lists to block email coming from IP addresses which abuse Internet resources by sending massive quantities of unsolicited commercial or bulk email. This helps us to keep a significant amount of unwanted commercial e-mail from entering our system, and assists us in solving a problem that is negatively impacting our clients.

Enterhost also maintains an internal block list, separate from these lists. This list is used mainly in cases of denial-of-service spam attacks, as an immediate reactive measure to stop an incoming spam attack. We will work with the ISP involved to address each situation.

For those entities currently on one of the third-party lists, they must contact the third-party list directly to be removed. Many times a party can be removed from a list via telephone, or via the home pages of those lists. In most cases, a system that is on one of the lists is easily removed, following some simple steps. If you would like to know if a mail server is located on the lists that Enterhost utilizes, please see the URLs above.

Enterhost Inbound Sending Policy

Technical Guidelines:
" All e-mail servers connecting to Enterhost's relay servers must have valid reverse DNS entries (i.e. all sending IP addresses must have active corresponding domain names in DNS).
" All e-mail servers connecting to Enterhost's mail servers must be secured to prevent unauthorized use (may not be an open proxy, router, or relay).
" Connections from dynamically assigned IP addresses (dial-up accounts) will not be accepted to Enterhost's relay servers.
" Organizations may not hardcode Enterhost's mx records into their configuration files.
" Organizations must immediately unsubscribe any Enterhost e-mail addresses that receive a permanent failure e-mail bounce from Enterhost's mailer-daemon.

E-mail formatting Guidelines:
" Organizations must not do anything that tries to hide or forge the sender of the e-mail and sending site of e-mail.
" Each mailing must specifically state how the Enterhost clients' e-mail addresses were obtained (i.e. purchase from Acme tools, sign up for Travel discounts, etc.) and must state whether this is a one-time mailing or a reoccurring mailing. Additionally, such details as the date and time when the e-mail address was obtained along with the IP address must be available upon request.
" All mailing should contain simple and obvious unsubscribe mechanisms. While we recommend that this be in the form of a (working!) link to a one-click unsubscription system, a "reply to:" address may also be used. In this case we require that the address receiving those replies be valid.
" All e-mail must have valid non-electronic contact information for the sending organization in the text of each e-mail (phone number, physical mailing address, etc.). If this is not readily feasible, there must be a link in each e-mail to such information on the sending organization's website.
Policy & Procedural Guidelines:
" All e-mail to Enterhost's client base must be solicited (i.e. there is an existing and provable relationship between the e-mail recipient and the sender).
" If an organization generates complaints, Enterhost may implement blocks until a reconfirmation mailing is sent.
" In no way does the posting of these guidelines imply any affiliation, membership, sponsorship or endorsement of business or activities/practices of an organization by Enterhost.
" Enterhost reserves the right to discontinue delivery of e-mail from an Internet sender if Enterhost's service is impaired or for other reasons.

Why do I have an IMIP mailbox in my web based email?
This folder is created by Web Calendaring. It is used to send/receive invitations, alerts, and reminders. SMTP will store a copy of incoming ICAL messages in this mailbox as well.

I am receiving the following error when sending an email to multiple recipients: 501 maximum recipient count exceeded
When using an email client such as Outlook or Outlook Express, the server will only allow each email to have a maximum of 50 recipients per email.  This is a server wide setting and can not be changed for any single account.

If you need to send an email to more than 50 recipients, you will have to send the email multiple times in batches of 50 recipients.

Ensure that your userid is 'username@yourdomain.com' and that the password is correct. If you are not able to log on, then use your Admin Account. When you have logged on, reset the password for the user in question. Check to make sure that you have enabled "allow web access". If you are not able to login to the Admin Account, contact us at support@enterhost.com.

Do I get a separate mail account with my domain pointers?
You do not get a separate mail account with your domain pointers. However, you can request us to setup a mail domain pointer. This allows you to accept mail at your domain pointer as well. For clarification we have an example below:

You can create an email account sales@yourdomain.com. You will then be able to accept email at all of your mail domain pointers as well. All of the emails, regardless of the domain, will be placed in your sales@yourdomain.com mail box.

sales@yourdomain.com Email account you have created

sales@yourdomain.net Domain pointer
sales@yourdomain.org Domain pointer
sales@yourdomain.biz Domain pointer

What settings do I use on my iPhone (SmarterMail)

The incoming and outgoing mail server are mail.domain.com, substituting domain.com by your own domain name, or mail server.  For the Outgoing mail server use port 25 or the alternate port 587 and turn Off SSL.

In some cases the service providers do not allow their customers to send email from the customer's mail server.  If this is your case contact your service provider for the correct outgoing mail server settings.

How to verify DNS and client settings for the new SmarterMail environment

Verify and update your MX (mail) records:

Perform a lookup with InterNIC to verify that the name severs are pointed to our DNS servers. Browse to this address, type in your domain name and click Submit.
http://www.internic.net/whois.html

If the results show our name servers then we will update these records for you. In this case please skip down to the next heading.

Name Server: DNS1.ENTERHOST.COM
Name Server: DNS2.ENTERHOST.COM
Name Server: DNS3.ENTERHOST.COM
Name Server: DNS4.ENTERHOST.COM

If these are not pointing at our name servers, then please check your MX record by following these steps.

  1. Browse to this website, type in your domain name once more and click MX Lookup.
    http://www.mxtoolbox.com/

  2. If the MX record shows as one of the following below, then the record will need to be updated.

    mail01.enterhost.com
    mail02.enterhost.com
    mail03.enterhost.com
    mail04.enterhost.com

To update the record, please log in to your domain's registrar and update these records as follows:

    MX, Priority 10, mail07.enterhost.com.
    CNAME, mail, mail07.enterhost.com.

  3. If the MX record shows to be mailfilter.enterhost.com, then you do not have to modify it.

  4. If the MX record shows to be something other than any of these above, your email is being hosted with a third party and you do not have to modify it.

Verify your e-mail clients are pointed to the correct mail server:

You will also need to verify that your e-mail client (Outlook) is pointed to the correct mail server. If you are not receiving mail, then it's likely that this needs to be updated.

Browse to our tutorial video website and scroll down to the heading titled 'Email - How to Create Accounts in POP3 Clients.' Click on the link that corresponds with the version of Outlook you are running.
http://www.enterhost.com/support/shared/demos/index.cfm

A video will launch which guides you through the configuration of your e-mail client. Once you've reached the point that lists the incoming/outgoing mail server, verify that these are set to mail.yourdomain.com.

If this is set to one of the older mail servers (mail01.enterhost.com -mail04.enterhost.com) then you will need to update it to reflect mail.yourdomain.com. If the outgoing mail server is provided by your ISP, like mail.bellsouth.net, then leave this setting as it is. This is required by your ISP for delivery.

How do I configure my scripts to send mail (PHP)?

We require that you add the name of your outgoing mail server and e-mail address to the top of PHP scripts that send mail. This helps us identify users that are abusing the mail system and ensures that our outgoing mail servers are not blacklisted. Simply add these two lines below the PHP header like so:

<?PHP
ini_set("SMTP","mail.yourdomain.com");
ini_set("sendmail_from","user@yourdomain.com");

How can I make changes to my MX records?
If your plan includes the HELM control panel click on the DNS Zone icon and edit the MX record. If your plan does not include the HELM control panel you may email your MX record change request to support@enterhost.com

How do I prevent being spammed?

Spammers usually get their addresses from mailing lists that they buy from other companies. These mailing lists are compiled from customers who submit their personal info via online forms. Their info is compiled into a database and then sold.

Often, when you are filling out personal information on-line, there is a check-box that may have a caption similar to this: "If you would like this information to be made available for other clients, check this box." If you leave the box marked, your e-mail will almost undoubtedly be placed on a mailing list. You will more than likely start receiving unwanted messages.

Common sense suggests, we advise you to never unnecessarily submit any information to any unidentified party in order to save yourself any possible problems.

avoid spam

What is spamming?

Spam is flooding the Internet with many copies of the same message, in an attempt to force the message on people who would not otherwise choose it receive it. Most spam is commercial advertising, often for dubious products, get-rich-quick schemes, or quasi-legal services. Spam cost the sender very little to send most of the costs are paid for by the recipient or the carriers rather than by the sender.

If a client is caught using our services for spamming, they will first be warned. If the activities continue, their account will be cancelled. There are no exceptions.

What is an alias?

An Alias is a different name for an existing mailbox(s). Enterhost provides its clients with free e-mail aliases.

This may be best described with an example.

Example: You can establish the alias 'sales@daisysflowershop.com'. When an email is sent to this alias it is then forwarded to all of the 'employees' email boxes in Sales Department.

How do I configure Outlook Express to retrieve my mail?

The username/password combination we provided you when you signed up is your default POP3 mailbox. Below is an example using the domain daisysflowershop.com. NOTE: Remember to replace daisysflowershop.com with the name of your domain.

Incoming POP3 mail server: MAIL.DAISYSFLOWERSHOP.COM

Outgoing SMTP mail server: MAIL.DAISYSFLOWERSHOP.COM

NOTE: If you are able to receive your mail but not send outgoing mail, then you should contact your ISP and ask them if they have blocked 3rd party SMTP Mail Servers. If this is the case, then you should use the Outgoing SMTP Mail Server of your ISP. Your ISP will provide this information to you.

How do I Authenticate SMTP for my mail using Eudora or Netscape?

Qualcomm Eudora

THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS ARE TAKEN FROM QUALCOMM EUDORA USER MANUAL:

SMTP authentication operates automatically in Eudora.

Eudora can log in to an SMTP server when sending mail, just like it does for receiving mail. Not all SMTP servers require or allow such authentication. Eudora will attempt authentication to servers that allow it. The preferred SMTP authentication method is CRAM-MD5. If CRAM-MD5 is not available, LOGIN or PLAIN will automatically be used.
Once Eudora discovers that your SMTP server allows authentication and when you send messages, a dialog appears that prompts you to enter a password. For more details on Eudora please go to:

http://www.eudora.com/email/docs/index.html

Netscape Navigator

Click on the 'Edit' menu
Click on 'Preferences...'
Find and expand 'Mail & Newsgroups' by clicking on [+]
Click on 'Mail Servers'
On the right side, select 'If Possible' in the 'Use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) or TLS for outgoing messages' area
Click 'OK'

How do I configure my email client to send and receive email?

In order for you to access your email, you must enter the following information into their corresponding fields of your main software configuration. Below is an example using the domain daisysflowershop.com. NOTE: Remember to replace 'daisysflowershop.com' with the name of your domain.

Incoming mail server (POP3/IMAP4): mail.daisysflowershop.com
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.daisysflowershop.com
*Username: admin@daisysflowershop.com
Password: ************

*If you have problems place a '%' instead of an '@' symbol in the username box. By entering the '@daisysflowershop.com', your email program is logged in to the correct domain.

Also, our outgoing mail servers require SMTP Authentication. Search the Frequently Asked Questions database for 'Authenticate SMTP'. This will provide you instructions on how to activate this option for many popular email clients.

I just received SPAM. What can I do?

We recommend reporting the offender to SpamCop.

http://www.spamcop.net

I am using ASPMail component to send mail with a form, what should i put for RemoteHost?

You should use the outgoing mail server that was supplied in your New Account email. Typically this would be 'mail.yourdomain.com'.

Ex:  Mailer.RemoteHost="mail.daisysflowershop.com"

I receive the following error when attempting to send mail with ColdFusion using CFMAIL: 'No SMTP server specified for CFMAIL'

In order to send mail using ColdFusion, you will need to specify the server attribute of the CFMAIL tag. The server you specify will be the same as the outgoing mail server in your new account email. Typically this would be 'mail.yourdomain.com'.

Ex: server="mail.daisysflowershop.com"

How can I send form email through my mailserver instead of using the default SMTP service on the web server?

If you are using Microsoft CDONTS to send email, it is being relayed directly through the default SMTP service and not the actual mail server. This SMTP service was not meant for bulk email and can be affected by other users on the server sending bulk email. To circumvent this problem, you can use any of the available ASP components included with your hosting package.

The ASP components will allow you to specify your remote address to relay the mail to. This will allow it to send through your mailserver instead of the default service.

Why are these spam emails being sent from my domain when i didn't send them?

What you are seeing are bounced messages from "spoofing" or "phishing" methods. Spam generators and viruses do have the ability to insert fake IP addresses/hostnames in their headers to make the messages appear it came from a different source. This is what you are seeing in the random email that you get. Improperly configured email servers/spam filters can allow these messages to be sent and received.

"Spoofing," or "phishing", frauds attempt to make Internet users believe that they are receiving e-mail from a specific, trusted source, or that they are securely connected to a trusted web site, when that is not the case.

Spoofing is generally used as a means to convince individuals to provide personal or financial information that enables the perpetrators to commit credit card/bank fraud or other forms of identity theft.

In "E-mail spoofing" the header of an e-mail appears to have originated from someone or somewhere other than the actual source. Spam distributors and criminals often use spoofing in an attempt to get recipients to open and possibly even respond to their solicitations.

"IP Spoofing" is a technique used to gain unauthorized access to computers, whereby the intruder sends a message to a computer with an IP address indicating that the message is coming from a trusted source.

Why did I receive a Spam complaint when the message was not approved by me?

If you have received a Spam complaint message from Enterhost Abuse and it was for a message that you did not approve, but did come from your server, you have a web form being used by a spammer. Forms can be abused by spam bots. There are many ways a spammer can misuse a form by inserting additional code in the field boxes, or simply using a "Send to a friend" form to send extra content like adds or fake bank notices. One way to prevent this action is to have a device that will determine if the user is human and not a program. You can test this by posting a password in a picture. There are several companies that sell this type of software, the current name is CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart). For more information, please visit the ink below: http://www.captcha.net

The option of finding this software is up to you. But you can give it a try with your own pictures/passwords. Be advised that there is a growing number of "intelligent" spam bots that have been design to recognize characters from a picture.

The second option is to design a secure email form. A secure email form requires parameters for the email address that the form is to be sent to. If you do not set it up carefully, it can be used by spammers to send emails to anyone. For more information, try doing a google search on secure mail forms.
